TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)
TPE, full name Thermoplastic Elastomer, is a thermoplastic elastomer material with the elasticity of rubber and the processability of plastic. It can be processed by injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, etc., and the product can be recycled after being discarded. It is an environmentally friendly material. TPE has excellent weather resistance, cold resistance and low temperature resistance, and can still maintain its good performance at -65℃.
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomer)
TPU, full name Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomer, is a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer material. It also has the elasticity of rubber and the processability of plastic, but compared with TPE, TPU has higher strength, wear resistance and oil resistance. TPU also has good temperature resistance and aging resistance, and can be used in a wider temperature range.
Comparison of performance characteristics of TPE and TPU
Weather resistance and cold resistance
TPE has outstanding weather resistance and cold resistance, and can still maintain its good performance at -65℃. TPU has excellent weather resistance and cold resistance, but its temperature resistance range is wider and can be used in a wider temperature range.
Elasticity and wear resistance
Both TPE and TPU have excellent elastic properties, but TPU has higher wear resistance and is one of the preferred materials for wear-resistant products. In addition, TPU's tensile strength, tear strength and flexural properties are also better than TPE.
Hydrolysis resistance and oil resistance
TPE has good water resistance under turbidity, but the polyester series may decompose under certain conditions. TPU has better hydrolysis resistance, especially in the polyether series. In addition, TPU is a non-polar polymer material with little affinity for mineral oil, so it has good oil resistance.
Specific gravity and density
The specific gravity of TPE varies widely, ranging from 0.89 to 1.3. The specific gravity of TPU is usually between 1.0 and 1.4, slightly higher than TPE.
